The weather was starting to look pretty gnarly and eventually a light sprinkle started back up so everyone had to move back under the pavilion. The guys with the natural drum skins can't let their drums get wet as it will affect the drum's tune and can damage the skin. Even the high humidity at the beach can affect their sound. My djembe drum has a synthetic drum skin and composite body, fine for a novice like myself and much easier to care for. If I do eventually get good at playing the djembe, I might upgrade to a wooden djembe with a natural skin, but for now what I have will work quite nicely.
